What is a trauma-informed therapist? When searching for a therapist, you may come across the term “trauma-informed therapist.” But what does that actually mean — and how can it help you on your healing journey? What Is a Trauma-Informed Therapist? A trauma-informed therapist is a mental health professional who understands how deeply trauma can affect your thoughts, emotions, and even your body. Instead of focusing only on symptoms, trauma-informed care takes into account: The prevalence of trauma – Many people have lived through overwhelming or painful events. The effects of trauma – Trauma can shape how your nervous system responds to stress, how you relate to others, and how safe you feel in the world. The importance of safety and trust – Healing happens when you feel safe, respected, and in control during therapy. Being trauma-informed means therapy is not just about “talking through problems.” It’s about creating a safe space where both your mind and body are supported. Why Is Trauma-Informed Therapy Important? Trauma can leave lasting imprints. It doesn’t just live in your memories — it can live in your nervous system, showing up as anxiety, hypervigilance, disconnection, or even physical symptoms. Without a trauma-informed approach, therapy risks moving too quickly or overlooking how your body holds onto trauma. That can feel invalidating, or even retraumatizing. A trauma-informed therapist works differently: Prioritizes safety: The first step is always making sure you feel safe and comfortable. Paces therapy carefully: You won’t be pushed further than you’re ready for. Empowers you: You set the pace, and your voice matters at every stage. Respects mind-body connection: Therapy integrates not just your thoughts, but also your body’s responses. What to Expect in Trauma-Informed Therapy Working with a trauma-informed therapist like me means you can expect: A judgment-free environment where your story is honored. Sessions designed to match your comfort level and readiness. Tools and strategies for managing stress and grounding your body. A focus on both mind and body, recognizing how trauma shows up physically. Innovative approaches (like my method, Therapy in Motion) that use movement and talk therapy together to unlock deeper healing.

Couples Therapy
If you start your relationship at 80%, that number is going to go down over time. Commitments, stress, responsibilities—they all get higher. If you’re not actively working on your relationship, it doesn’t magically improve. Therapy isn’t just for crisis—it’s an investment in your future.
